NFL名言集⑥【現役QB編②】

NFLにまつわる名言を集めてみました。現役QBの言葉から、気に入ったものを紹介します。

今回は、パトリック・マホームズ、キャム・ニュートン、イーライ・マニング、ドリュー・ブリーズ、アレックス・スミス、ケイス・キーナム、マット・ライアン、フィリップ・リバースの言葉を紹介します。

※2014年の記事より。父の日に寄せてのコメントです。父のアーチー・マニングもNFLのQBでした。長兄のクーパー（ケガでNFL入りならず）、兄のペイトンと一緒に遊んだ思い出でしょうか。

"For the most part, if I’m being compared to Peyton, I consider that a compliment. He’s at the top of his game, and I’m not anywhere near his level right now. But that’s the goal, to play at a high level, and he’s the guy playing at the highest in the league."- Eli Manning*9

※2005年、プロ２年目の時点での発言です。ペイトンは1998年にコルツに入団。2003、2004シーズンでMVPを獲得していました。

"Throw it to the guy wearing the same jersey you are."- Eli Manning*10

「自分が着てるのと同じジャージの奴に投げろ」

※2019、新人QBのダニエル・ジョーンズに先発を譲ることになってから、どんなアドバイスをしたか、と記者に聞かれて答えたコメントです。

ドリュー・ブリーズ

"Anyone can see the adversity in a difficult situation, but it takes a stronger person to see the opportunity." - Drew Brees*11

「誰でも困難な状況を逆境だとみなす。より強い人格は、そこにチャンスを見出す」

※英語としての解説：「It takes 3 minutes to check your e-mail.（メールをチェックするのに３分かかる）」というように、「It takes A to（動詞）」という形がありますが、ここでは「 to see the opportunity＝（困難な状況に）チャンスを見出す」には「stronger person＝もっと強い人格」が必要だ、と言っている構造です。

アレックス・スミス

「クオーターバックは、サードダウンとレッドゾーンで、生計を立てるんだ」

※プロ１年目を振り返って、自身の改善点を挙げる文脈でのコメントです。「make one's living on(by/from）」で、「～で生計を立てる」の意味。サードダウンと、レッドゾーンでの勝負強さが重要だとシンプルに伝えています。

フィリップ・リバース

ひとまず以上です。現役QBたちの言葉から、１つでもお気に入りの言葉が見つかればうれしいです。個人的には、マホームズのノールックパスについての率直なコメントが好きでした。
